Join me in taking time out to tune in to the garden for art, crafting and journaling adult workshops inspired by the natural world. Each class takes place in a different area of the Van Vleck Gardens (weather permitting), offering new inspiration for discovery. Deepen your connection with nature and yourself in a no-pressure environment.
Creating with Nature: Rock Painting
Wednesday, July 8: 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Find your calm one brushstroke at a time. Using natural stones as tiny canvases, we’ll explore simple painting techniques and the joy of painting without any pressure for perfection. Come relax and turn ordinary rocks into meaningful little works of art while taking time to reflect and reconnect with ourselves. No artistic experience needed – just an open mind and desire to play.
Creating with Nature: Color Walk
Saturday, July 18: 10:00 – 11:00 am
Take a walk, follow a color and see what unfolds. Join us on a Color Walk for a playful way to reconnect with yourself and the world around you. We’ll slow down, notice the colors and beauty within nature, and use guided prompts to welcome personal reflection and sparking creativity. It’s part mindful walk and part creative practice while tuning into nature. No pressure for perfection or writing/art experience needed.
Creating with Nature: Nature Journaling
Monday, July 27: 10:00 – 11:00 am
What if the garden had something to tell you? Join us for a relaxed, non-journaling “journaling” class where we slow down and spend time noticing the small, quiet details around us with an open mind…the sunlight on leaves, shifting shapes of shadows, songs filling the air….can all inspire your personal creative expression. There is no pressure for perfection in this class – just a space to play through whatever feels natural to you: simple sketching, scribbling, free writing or note taking…. and a willingness to tune out the noise, and spend a little time outdoors with an open mind.
Creating with Nature: Shadow Drawing
Wednesday, August 5: 6:30 – 7:30 pm
If you say “I can’t draw” this is the perfect class for you! Our shadow drawing class is for anyone who’s ever felt intimidated by art but still craves a creative outlet. Using sunlight and shadows, we’ll create simple and beautiful drawings in a relaxed and supportive space. It’s an easy and playful way to quiet the inner critic while finding your artistic side and connect with yourself and nature in a whole new way. No pressure for perfection or experience needed.
